Winter Home Maintenance Checklist
Winterizing your home is a very important process for homeowners! We want to ensure you and your home are properly prepared for the winter months; use our winter home maintenance checklist to properly prep your home for the season.
- Make sure your heating system is functioning properly:
- Have a professional inspect your system once a year
- Change filters quarterly (every 3 months)
- Make sure any outdoor units are clear of debris and nothing is blocking any of the intakes
- If there are seasonal switch overs, like a humidifier, make sure it’s calibrated and turned on
- Clean out your gutters & downspouts:
- Make sure gutters and downspouts are free from debris, such as, leaves and sticks so any snow melting in the spring can drain adequately
- Hose & Hose Bibs
- Drain all hoses, unhook them, and store them in a garage or garden shed for the winter
- Shut off all exterior water to prevent pipes freezing; like hose bibs
- Store Seasonal Outdoor Items
- Store or cover any patio furniture
- Put away all garden tools and garden decorations
- Plant pots should be cleaned out and covered
- Stock up on Salt, Sand, or Gravel
- Whichever you like to use on icy driveways/pathways, make sure you stock up. You never know when the first slippery day will be and it’s better to be prepared
